Cascade VCF &VCA
The AM8044 module is based around the original SSM2044 Datasheet and is very similar to the circuit used in the Korg Poly 6. The chip delivers a 4-pole voltage controlled low pass filter, with a smooth and controlled resonance. I have added a simple VCA to this module, which can be patched from an envelope generator (amount is adjusted using the GAIN knob) or the VCA can be used as the VCF output level control using the Gain/Env knob.
The front panel has pots for Frequency Cutoff and Key Track, which varies the amount of keyboard CV that is applied to the cutoff frequency modulation, connected to the standard Doepfer bus. There are 2x front panel CV inputs with pots for modulation level, and an ENV input for varying the VCA level. There are 2x audio signal inputs with levels pots and resonance pot which takes the filter into full and smooth self oscillation.
The module was launched in 2014 and produced in small numbers until 2016. Once SSM2044 chips became hard to find the module was discontinued. It has been replaced by the SSM2144 skiff friendly module which uses the SSI2144 VCF chip.
