IEC EQ magnetic tape amplifier
The Beepboop 2hp IEC Tapehead module amplifies magnetic tape straight up to Eurorack level for processing in your system.
Scratch and scrub through pieces of tape! Create a sound collage board of lots of different sounds and then manually play them by hand. The improved playback circuit makes it possible to dial into individual syllables and sounds. Works great with both ¼ and ⅛ inch tape.
The module pairs beautifully with any delay to produce a fantastic sounding Pseudo vintage tape echo effect. Capture the sounds and loop them using the LO-FI Tape sampler module. Record your Jam to tape and then start the whole process again…. Who knows where it will take you.
The slider on the panel controls the gain of the signal. The signal present on a tape head when reading magnetic tape is about 1mV (depending upon the strength of the recorded signal) which is 100,000 times less than a Eurorack signal! The first amplifier stage applies IEC equalization and the subsequent gain stage (~40dB) is controlled by the slider.
The input jack is used with the Tape head wand included but can be used to amplify straight from the head of any tape machine with some simple modifications.
The tape wand included has been hand built and is designed to be used on a flat surface. Alternatively tape wands with the guides still attached make it possible to tap into tape loops at almost anypoint to create a delay. Use a soldering clampstand to hold the tape head against the loop and move for the delay length. This is especially useful for tape machines without a speed mod.
Repeats can be introduced by feeding the output back into the recorder in the tape loop. The number of repeats will depend upon the level of signal that is feedback. The tone of the feedback can be controlled using a filter!
Includes Tape wand, ¼ tape, a power ribbon cable, screws and 1 year warranty.
