Distortion and Overdrive

The Asymmetric Distortion is a 7HP Eurorack Distortion and Overdrive kit ideal for clipping waveforms and adding some crunch to drums! This module contains 2 diode clipping circuits, which are selectable using the toggle switch on the front panel. The first is a hard clipping circuit which clips the signal with a hard cut-off, meaning that for example a sine wave signal will be clipped to a square wave at high levels of distortion. The second circuit is a soft clipping option which has a softer limiter giving the wave form a more rounded shape.

The symmetry control allows for the clipping to happen asymmetrically, so that either the top or bottom of the input waveform is clipped more or less. There is also a CV input for the symmetry control which offers some nice modulation possibilities. If you pass in a slow LFO to this CV input, and then feed an audiorate sine wave into the audio input with the distortion knob set very high, you can achieve a square wave with pseudo PWM at the output.

Front panel controls include a level control for distortion, a dedicated offset knob for symmetry input (so that you can have asymmetric clipping without an external voltage) and a volume control to help tame the output at high distortion levels.

This module is capable of adding subtle overdrive to oscillators and drums, but also go all the way into very crunchy distortion!
