Stereo Noise Gate/Compressor

Robots Are Red's debut module, Sump Pump

Sump Pump a compact stereo noise gate. It can also be a stereo compressor and even an expander to boost your signal up over 2x with soft clipping. The level knob can go past unity volume up to 2x with soft clipping. So with both the Floor and Level all the way up you can get up to nearly a 4x signal boost. Sump Pump can be used as a great dynamic effect with more extreme Floor settings, and with very low attack and release times you can get great glitchy effects and "edge of breakup" sounds. Use it as a mono dynamic effect with sidechain compression. And easily duck your signal with a kick or any other audio source. Or just use it to silence a noisy signal from previous heavy compression/distortion.

Sump Pump has:

Attack and Release Knobs: Controls the attack and release of the engaged envelope, from 1ms up to over 10 seconds.

Threshold Knob: Sets the threshold level/voltage which engages the internal envelope (0-10V)

Floor Knob: Sets the destination level/volume of the envelope. Unity is at 3 o'clock (where the line marker is on the panel). Fully CCW is -100dB (not actually infinity on analog). Fully CW is +10dB or 2x volume.

Gate/Comp Switch: Sets the behavior of the Threshold/Envelope firing. Gate Mode will engage the envelope whenever the input level falls below the Threshold level. Comp(ressor) mode will engage the envelope whenever the input level rises above the threshold level.

Level Knob: This is the master output volume knob. Unity is again at 3 o'clock and fully CW is +10dB/2x output level with soft clipping.

L-R Audio Inputs: The threshold only follows the Left audio input. This allows you to use the L input for the sidechain signal and the right input for the main audio signal.

Engage Input: Use a gate or trigger to manually engage the envelope generator.

Threshold CV Input: CV input offsets the threshold level from the knob setting.

Floor CV Input: CV input offsets the threshold level from the knob setting.

Duck Input: An audio (AC coupled) input with an internal envelope follower. The envelope is inverted/negatively applied to the level of the main output for a ducking effect.

L-R Audio Outputs: Master stereo audio outputs.

Envelope Output: A full voltage positive output of the Gate/Comp Envelope.
