4 Force Sensing Resistor modules in 1.
The FSR-4 module is one of our growing series of modules based on Force Sensing Resistor (FSR) technology. These modules translate the pressure the performer applies to their sensing pads into a user adjustable scaleable control voltage, and an adjustable threshold dependent gate signal.
The FSR-4 has four identical channels that can produce four independent Pressure Outputs and four separate Gate Outputs. Internal movable jumpers allow any of one the four channel Gate or Pressure Output control voltages to be routed to the standard internal CV and gate bus on Doepfer style power bus boards. The Force Sensing Resistor pressure sensor is a non-capacitance based polymer thick film technology, responding to any direct pressure. They are not affected by skin resistance, are water resistant, and never need cleaning or polishing. As force is applied to the sensor, the device’s electrical resistance decreases and the FSR-4’s circuit converts and scales this resistance change into the Pressure Output control voltage. The Pressure Scale control adjust this voltage range from 0 to over +10 volts. The Pressure Output is also read by Gate Threshold circuit and when this voltage passes a level determined by the Gate Threshold control, a gate is produced at the Gate Output and it’s corresponding LED will light.
The Force Sensing Resistor is an excellent human/machine interface sensor. You can even play them by pressing on them with other objects or while wearing gloves. Rubber pads and other textured surfaces can be placed on top of the FSR-4’s sensors to make a user defined custom feel to the playing surface.
The FSR-4 comes in two models – The FSR-4 Classic and the FSR-4 MkII. The FSR-4 Classic uses through-hole parts and has socketed ICs for easier user modification and in the field repair if needed. The FSR-4 MkII uses Surface Mounted Devices (SMD) and is better suited for shallow cases or for use in desktop controllers.
