MIDI Interface with a Range of Features
Our MIDI Interface (MIDI) allows our modular system to be controlled with an external MIDI device, such as a keyboard etc.
It hosts a range of simple, but effective features, including a note output with a typical CV deviation of only ±1 cent (±0.001V) over eight octaves. This range can be offset using a trimmer on the PCB as desired. The note output also has a glide control (glide time of approximately 0s to 0.5s) that allows portamento to be added.
Other CV outputs include pitchbend (±0.5V), control change (0V to 10V) and velocity (0V to 10V). The pitchbend CV is also normalled to the note output for simultaneous use. The control change (CC) output can be changed between CC1 (modulation wheel), CC71 (resonance) and CC74 (frequency cutoff) using a switch on the front panel.
Gate, trigger and clock outputs (5V) are also provided with LEDs on the gate and clock outputs to indicate the output level. The clock output produces 4 PPQN.
The MIDI channel can be changed from 1 to 16 using jumpers on the PCB.
Finally, the note priority to be switched on the front panel between last, highest or lowest:
- Last note: the most recent note played will be sounded. When that note is released, the next, most recent note still being held will be sounded.
- Highest note: when multiple notes are sounded simultaneously, the highest note being held will be sounded. When the highest note is released, the next highest note will be played etc.
- Lowest note: same as when set to highest note, except the lowest note being held will be sounded.
