Twin-T (revision 2)

Kick-Drum / Sine Oscillator

This is the classic bass-drum style module built around a twin-T oscillator - the difference being that I've made both the resistive and capacitive 'arms' of the notch filter separately adjustable to increase the range of sounds you can get out of it. There's also a decay pot which can let you damp out oscillations up to a certain point. Works best with a short, decaying pulse (eg. from an AR envelope generator) but trigger it with a square wave and it'll fire on both positive and negative going pulses. This isn't a perfect module by any means - it needs a bit of perseverance to get the most out of it, but I think the results are worth it; you can go from a flabby kick drum up to clicky woodblock-type sounds and all points in between.

For best results, have the decay pot set at around 2-3 o'clock - any higher and there's a real risk of getting no sound at all due to the capacitive arm of the twin-T being pulled to ground - in which case back the decay pot off a little. If the output is a bit too 'clicky' then running it through a low pass filter often helps (or, if you want to emphasise the click, use a high-pass instead ...) . For best results, use a fairly 'hot' trigger signal (around 7-8V - envelope generators are good sources) otherwise the output may be a bit 'quiet' - in this case, a bit of additional amplification may be beneficial.

Optimal results can be had by feeding this module into a dedicated channel on a mixer and tweaking the gain to suit.
