Description

Great price for an EP-booster pedal by Xotic USA. Excellent condition with no issues. What you see is what you get. 9 volt battery not included. Here is a review I found on Reverb that tells you everything you need to know about this pedal:"So, in the '70s, there was this tape delay, the Echoplex EP-3. It was a really good and cool-sounding tape delay, and a lot of the greats used it. But then, someone figured out that if you turned off all the echos, and just turned up the preamp, it still sounded really good, nice and warm, with the highs subtly rolled back, pushing the amp into a beautiful overdrive. Through the '80s and into the '90s, roadies lugged around this massive tape delay unit from gig to gig just to use the preamp in it to juice the amp. Eventually, someone had enough, and asked a road tech or effect maker to transplant or copy the Echoplex preamp circuit into something smaller. Well, the Xotic EP Booster is about as small as it gets. One knob, one switch, one power port, and one LED, in a vintage-inspired die-cast package with some decent heft to it, but only about a third the footprint of a "standard" pedal. That's really all you need with this effect, and it makes it really easy to sneak one onto a pedalboard. Sound-wise, it's simply beautiful. It produces a slight roll-off of treble, nothing extreme, but it warms the tone while the additional gain does magical things to your clean tone, and gives downstream pedals and the front end of your amp a little extra juice to push those stages into breakup faster. Open the bottom of the case, and the pedal shows off a couple more tricks in the form of two dip switches on the bottom of the circuit board. Flipping switch 1 up adds an additional 3dB of boost across the sweep of the volume knob, while flipping switch 2 adds a minor treble boost to flatten out the treble rolloff of the circuit in its "vintage" setting and make the boost more transparent. Does it work for bass? Absolutely; it's actually on my bass board now, set to vintage settings. While solid state doesn't react the same way as tubes to clean boosts (and you usually don't want to try to push solid-state bass amps into breakup), the subtle color is unchanged, warming your bass tone, and the extra gain works the same magic on bass pedals (like my EHX Bass Soul Food) as on guitar effects. In short, buy an EP Booster. Boosts have a variety of uses even on a modest pedal board, from pushing amps or pedals further than they'll normally go, to bringing yourself forward in the mix for solos or fills, or just using the boost to enhance tone by thickening the signal with the additional gain. This one's color options just make it that much more flexible, and valuable."
