Description

Up for sale, a 1978 Boss DS-1 Distortion “Silver Screw” effects pedal in excellent condition and in perfect working order. The DS-1 Distortion is a true icon in the world of guitar effects, utilized by artists from Kurt Cobain to Robert Smith to Glenn Frey and back. This pedal was made during the first year of DS-1 production, retaining the desirable silver screw for the battery compartment, as well as the transparent stomp switch and “long dash” graphics.

Boss’ first distortion pedal defined a bold new sound, delivering hard-edged attack and smooth sustain that’s been a staple for generations. And this Japanese-made black label iteration has a notably thicker, smoother, and more dynamic tone than later iterations. The circuit is untouched, with the original Toshiba TA7136AP pre-amplifier.

Cosmetic wear is limited to just a few minor marks on the enclosure, and the silkscreen graphics are clean. The original trio of knobs and Japanese black foil label on the back are present, and the inked serial number in the battery compartment dates production to November, 1978.
