About the Unicorn Account

Description

Big Muff with V2/V3 circuit board but with the tone bypass and 1981 pot codes. These versions are documented on Kit Rae’s Big Muff website and are quite rare. Why they exist is not entirely certain. They may have been a transistional version between the V3 and V5 or just made from leftover parts. Most of them are from the late 70’s rather than 1981, so this is an oddball among oddballs. I suspect they found some old circuit boards lying around and decided to use them rather than discard them or maybe it’s older than 1981 and the pots were broken and replaced at the factory in 1981? Who knows? Only Esther. Circuitwise it looks like a standard 1981 V6 Big Muff with with 2N5088s with the exception of all resistors that are normally 470K being 430K. I guess they ran out of 470Ks that day. Everything looks factory apart from the footswitch which is a DPDT switch rather than the usual SPDT, though it’s not wired for true-bypass.
