All-Bender

Once upon a time, in 1965, a store in London released its own version of the very first fuzz pedal, the Maestro FZ-1. This adaptation was called the Tone Bender, and it was a bombshell in the burgeoning rock 'n' roll scene. Then in 1966 they released the Tone Bender II Professional, which was even more successful and became the tool of choice for legendary musicians like Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck. Decades later, die-hard Bender fans finally identified a third version of the famous circuit that represents the transition between the first version (which would become known as the MkI) and the famous MkII. This intermediate model was nicknamed Mk1.5, and its two germanium transistor circuit (instead of the three usually found on the Tone Bender) made it the inspiration for the Fuzz Face. Finally, in 1968, the Tone Bender MKIII became the last Bender of the 1960s, with a radically different circuit that owed more to the Burns Buzzaround (Robert Fripp's choice) than to its Bender heritage. The latter was also the first to offer a tone control.

More than fifty years later, more or less faithful replicas of these legendary pedals sell for crazy prices, so the average musician can't experience the enormous range of sounds that the Tone Bender is capable of.

A switch allows you to switch from one version to another, between the acid bite of the MkI, the warm cushion of the 1.5, the harmonic rich howl of the MkII and the gain rich fluidity of the Mk3. The gain can be adjusted individually for each version, and a tone control has been added on the Mk3, but the output volume is adjusted across the board with a single Level knob.

The All Bender is very simple to use, but it gives you access to a lot of fuzz sounds that will convince even the most die-hard Germanium fans.
