To add unpredictability, disturbances, Zadar + Nin is really a good tool. In ‘loop mode’ (‘repeat parameter’ set to infinity), plus the two assignable CVs on some chosen parameters (e.g. Warp, Time), the results are amazing. Here a link to have a look at the Zadar basic envelope shapes: http://xaocdevices.com/manuals/xaoc_zadar_chart_2.0.pdf

qu-bit is releasing a new granular module "Mojave"
It seems to be not a delay and focused on granular live processing.
But it seems to be inspired by beads.

Tides has been great and I am not selling it. For now, it will just go into my 4ms Pod. It was one of the first 3 modules I got. Now I have plenty of other modulation sources that I didn't then.
don't forget tides is also a great sound source!!
tbh - I've sold very few modules - I just add cases!

I'm mostly interested in sound design and having controllable unpredictability. To clarify more on the latter point, I like being able to control sequences and get out what I put in, but I find myself wanting ways to change up patterns and scales, I want to be able to set certain parameters, but still have my modular be able to give me things I don't expect. I suppose something like the Trigger Riot might be more up my alley for that, but I'm just super hesitant at this point.

A module I just got that I am in love with right now is Joranalogue Route 4 which does, in a very simple way, exactly what you want to do here. I have been using it to change up both patterns and scales with the simple flicks of the latching switches. It has the 1V precision add to each of the outputs on the top portion which when you use along with a quantized input (or even combine up to 4) you can make changes super quickly to your original pattern.
Here is a video from Bries actually using it this way. I don't have a Step 8 but I do have a Muxlicer. You don't need either of these modules to make the Route 4 shine either as I've been messing with quite a few different modules with gate, log, eoc, eor, outs.

Thanks for the reply.
Tides has been great and I am not selling it. For now, it will just go into my 4ms Pod. It was one of the first 3 modules I got. Now I have plenty of other modulation sources that I didn't then. I have really wanted the Waver mixer for wavefolding for a while now but prioritized some other utilities that were more important first. The Ts-L sounds awesome and for such a small footprint it has a lot of wave outputs for just 6hp.
If I get rid of the Tymp Legio, that space would be going to an Intellijel Mixup or Befaco STMix. I am also contemplating using that extra HP, intead of mixer, upgrading to better filter. I am in no rush to fill space either so that can wait. Parting with Tymp Legio is only because those funds can pretty much get me the Waver or Ts-L I know would get more use.
For a rack not focused on drums and wanting this system to be completely self contained, would you get rid of the Tymp Legio?
probably...
I currently have MI Tides but will be removing that module to make room for the Waver and the Ts-L V2.

along with what everyone else has said...
for guitar and bass input - most people want envelope following and gate extraction rather than pitch... as this is usually poor... the disting ex is one of the best at it though apparantly - I've not tried any pitch extraction, especially the b-cpompany module - but I do use envelope followerrs and gate extraction...
I have a very strong feeling that the 921B vco needs a 921A to actually work properly - do your research on this...
I never recommend either b-company or synthrotek on ethical grounds - don't support biggots!
strongly agree with the pam's suggestion - and not convinced a clock multiplier is a great thing - better to have a faster clock and divide - than a slower clock and multiply - especially if you want accurate timing (unless you are always going to use a very steady clock)
I'd go for less voices and more utilities - see my signature for hints - more versatility in patching for less expense...
doepfer and ladik are both solid and inexpensive (especially for utilities) and worth supporting as companies...
not convinced you need 2 dual ADSR modules... I'd lose 1 to make room for something more interetsing...
adefinitely a veils clone and a full size plaits clone over the b-company versions - After Later Audio and others make them and are worth supporting!
I'd also start with a minimum viable synth a single sound source, a single sound modifier, a modulation source (I like maths from Make Noise - another company worth supporting), a way to play and a way to listen plus some utilities - a quad cascading vca (veils) can be used as a mono output (& input for that matter - with disting ex for pitch/envelope following & maybe gate extraction - again a company worth supporting)

Check out Intellijels Rainmaker. I have both Beads and Mimeophon, and theyre awesome, but the Rainmaker is on a whole other level. Its a bit pricier than the others but its a super textured delay powerhouse.

I would love Rainmaker I just don't have the room for it 😭
If you need an accurate and powerful Delay module, I think it’s better to differentiate specialized modules like Dual Looping Delay (https://www.modulargrid.net/e/4ms-company-dual-looping-delay), or Chronoblob2 (https://www.modulargrid.net/e/alright-devices-chronoblob2) for example, and all those whose function allows a mix of sound manipulations including more or less the Delay function (like Beads, excellent module by the way, or Mimeophon).
-- Sweelinck
I hadn't considered that but it makes sense, I think in my case I'm looking for more of the variation and it seems like beads it is for now. Thanks!
It's not as versatile, but especially if you have one that has dedicated knobs for the blend-modes, it may be a cheaper option than the modules mentioned above. Here I can find the After Later Audio Typhoon for 250 euros for example. This way you can easily check if granular/looping delays are something that fits your style.
-- dubstepjoris
Thanks so much for the idea! I'm definitely trying to save some money and this seems like a great option to test stuff out.
At the moment, beads acts in my setup like a data bender for unpredictable random glitches and broken harddisk error- effects

This seems super promising for what I'm hoping to make, thank you for the input!
Love what my rack can do but not sure if I should keep the Tymp Legio. It is a great kick and the hats I can produce sound good too. The mids and toms sound decent as well but I can't get a snare that sounds good out of it to save my life.
I was able to pick up last month a Sample Drum which is what I originally really wanted but was not going to pay $500 CAD for it but I did get super lucky and find one around my bday for like $325 used in immaculate shape and it does all the inrack drum duties I could want plus cv mixing in sliced samples I create on the fly from my other modules makes for some super creative drums.
For a rack not focused on drums and wanting this system to be completely self contained, would you get rid of the Tymp Legio?

If you can get your hands on an inexpensive clouds clone, there's an alternative firmware for it that add several modes besides granular: reverb with pitch-shift, resonator, looping delay and looping delay with pitch-shift. It's from Matthias Puech who also worked on serveral 4MS modules. You can check more on this website https://mqtthiqs.github.io/parasites/clouds.html.

Alternatively, if you want to go have a big dedicated module without this alternative firmware stuff, the modules mentioned above seems very interesting and there are some great video's on YouTube on them.
Some thoughts:
- Very nice that you've chosen VCA with independent CV and manual level control. This way, you can use the VCA as an attenuator as well.
- You have quite a few modules that are reasonibly big for what they do, aka they have very specific functionality. For example, Erica Synths Ring Mod, Dreadbox Dystopia, Behringer 305 EQ/Mixer/Output. Behringer Brains and Behringer Perfect Pitch 1 are also a bit wide. This is not a problem per se, just an observation.
- 4Ms Shuffling clock multiplier is nice but for a beginner rack I'd recommend this beside an ALM Pamela's New/Pro workout. This module is a bit more versatile since it can also do euclidean rhythms, LFOs and Quantazation. So the SCM is a nice addition for more experimental or polyrhythms.
- You mention that you use the Keystep 37. This has a sync in/output so you can link it to a clock module. I see there is no reset in/out on the Keystep (meaning that when you stop and start a sequence on the Keystep, it won't restart your divided clock for example). When you start with this rack, I think you can manage to go without a reset, but later on you can use a midi to clock or clock to midi module for this (like the expanders for the Pamela's New/Pro Workout modules)
- Note that the Behringer Perfect Pitch PP1 converts Midi NOTE data and not the clock! You don't really need this part I believe as the Keystep 37 has CV/Gate/Mod output as well. You can still get this module for the instrument interface, but just so you know.
- You got four oscillators and three filters (plus your guitar/bass), this is quite a lot for the size of rack that you have. Especially as you have only one sequencer (your Keystep). I'd advice to drop one or two of these oscillators and add more utilities or a more versatile effects unit. Such as a micro Ornament & Crime or a Disting EX.
- If you want more sequences at the same time, consider upgrading your Keystep 37 to the Keystep Pro. This will give you four melodic sequences or three melodic sequences + a drum sequencer, all via CV or Midi. Also has more versatile sequence management.

Maybe think about, which modules you already have to pair with.
I saw a Morphagene in your rack.
this can also add some tape character and effects, but as far i know without saturation
I like the mimeophon, because its nice to modulate, good to control and very playable.
I grabbed a beads last week. It appears very versatile to me, but right know I dont know how to tame it. I guess you have to know excactly what you are doing to control it. But maybe I just need more time to learn it.
I guess Beads can replace or substitute other modules. For example, I wanted to buy a Qu-bit Data Bender, but I realized that I can do similar effects with beads stutter- / glitch mode.
At the moment, beads acts in my setup like a data bender for unpredictable random glitches and broken harddisk error- effects

Hi,

maybe it is a good option, somewhat expensive but worth it.
If not, obviously, Maths,

For VCA's any Veil's clone.
For effects, https://www.modulargrid.net/e/happy-nerding-fx-aid-black or if you don't want to have to remember the LED combinations, the XL version https://www.modulargrid.net/e/happy-nerding-fx-aid-xl-black

I dont have and havent used Sealegs, but between the other 2 it really depends on what you want from your delay. If youre interested in granular stuff, go with Beads. Otherwise i'd choose Mimeophon, personally. Its defintely a more textured delay. But then again being a delay is not what Beads does best.
I'm really struggling to pick a delay out right now. I want to make super textured sounds so beads seems obvious but sealegs has the tape sound option which is also interesting to me. And then there's also mimeophon, which seems great all around. I like the sound of them all and can see potential benefits in them all, so I'm just looking for any experiences with them or advice that might help me make a conclusion, thanks.
Edit: Also any other ideas I didn't mention
I'm going to dive into the modular synthesis world and I've been planning this module for a couple of months now, but I'm really clueless if it is "complete" or if I'm missing anything important, or maybe, I have something that would be a waste os HP and money. I'm planing to operate this Eurorack and other devices with an Arturia Keystep pro 37, and I also plan to connect some times electric guitars and basses.
Thanks in advance and don't overroast me please...https://cdn.modulargrid.net/img/racks/modulargrid_2357696.jpg

I have seen that you had modules lie on top of each other in your dotcom system. Not sure how that happened, but I guess this was the cause of problems.

The BSP is just rested on the modular and is completly in the way at all times, I'm probably going to order some little clip on stands that will hopefully let me stand this right on top of my cases in a fairly upright angle/position.
I prefer the immediacy of controlling drums from the Robaux LL8 than the BSP even if the programing of the BSP is nicer.
I was in Dance-mode in the 90's, I think all things music and design peaked in the 90's and we've never really improved after that.

also there's no problem buying longer ones and cutting them to size... you may lose a pin or 2 though... often the 40pin lengths are only a little bit more expensive than 8 pin or 10 pin... pitch is usually 2.54mm... mouser, tayda, rme, farrell all regularly stocck them...

Hi,
If you are referring to the power bus connectors, they are IDC type connectors, you will find them in any online electronics store.

Erica Synths doesn't reply to any emails.
Does anyone know the part numbers of the two types of headers, a 8-pin (x2) and 10-pin (x1) and where I might purchase them ?

Patch based around the Geosync TB-O and TB-EFA sequenced from the Beatsteop pro and then an accent sequence from the Steppy, Steppy also does a patern through an LPG for a secondary sequence which is de-coupled from the Pitches of the main 303 sequence but the TB-O is the the only VCO.
Thanks for listening.

Stay basic, build the signal path. For a true "polytimbral" you need vco, filter/lpg, an envelope and a vca/lpg for each voice.
Yes I've been having the same issue. I've even had some of my racks be completely emptied for seemingly no reason, Im assuming its a bug. I close the tab, come back to it a few hours latter and poof everything is gone. If im luckly the last two modules I added will still be there
hi guys, I'm turning to you because every time I try to design a minimal system I end up with a 104HP 9U... I know it's difficult but I would like a polytimbral synth (digital + analog oscillators) with at least a mono and a stereo / dual filter , stereo effects, modulations, utilities... I'd like to know what you think. These are perhaps all the modules I'm considering, I'd like to eliminate a lot of stuff or replace it with something smaller or with more functions in the same HP size. I can exclude a sequencer because I would like to write sequences on the digitakt and then send them to the modular via midi-to-cv (through a module with at least two different cv/gate out)
some of my still unanswered questions:
* Qu-bit prism or Behringer dual VCF? I have a Mimeophon so I already have an excellent delay, Prism costs more than behringer 172 + 121+ Doepfer waveshaper and I think I would get it with these other modules...even if they would take up a lot more HP and I would have to give up higpass and bandpass.
* Maths + Dual Env or just one function generator + Dual Env?
* I already have Behringer 921 and Surface, what other sound source would you add? I was also thinking for budget reasons about another Behringer analog oscillator but I'm open to other suggestions, especially on digital ones that aren't too "menu-divey".
So lately I've been rearranging modules on my modular and whenever I'd take a screenshot or reload the page it always seems to mess up the layout, relocating and/or hiding them underneath others, or even getting placed outside the rack. Anyone else been having this issue recently?
I don't think my hands could fit in there to tweak all of those little knobs, but I'd be interested to hear some sounds from it. Share a demo tune!
This tiny but flexible system has everything you need for a solid live set. There are a lot of fun possibilities here due to most of the modules having multiple modes. Patch each channel of grids into one of the three voices - they all have built in VCAs! The CV from Water can be attenuated then quantized by O_C. Use the Quadratt as your mixer, and patch the Navigator to MFX for great performable rises to build and release tension. Tymp legio works great as a kick that can be turned into a marimba or something else with the switches, and can pass through audio for sidechain ducking.
This will fill up every power slot of an intellijel palette, which has 2 buffered mults not shown here. Get some dusty clouds black panels for the intellijel 1U for a totally blacked-out system.
You could swap out the Water for a Mimetic Digitalis if you give up the 2HP attenuator.
Your setup seems quite comprehensive. One could perhaps imagine some complementary Lfo modulation source, possibly more 'disturbing' (Ochd, Diode Chaos, Triple Sloths...) or other modules. But obviously this is not really the fundamental problem.
Fluctuations in inspiration are things that commonly happen. And they are not always dependent on the musical equipment. Advice: recharge your energy within the music you love. Then resume your work from these bases. Reflect about how to reproduce some references in your own way. All the creators, whether in music or in other fields, all including the most admirable and innovative, have started from what already exists, then appropriating things their own way.
PS: and take your time to experiment... sometimes also without thinking too much! Venture, avoid only out > out :))
