Short answer: Yes you can use adio as CV.

I'm just starting to design a modular synth and i have a beginners question. Is it possible to use an Audio signal as a control voltage? Essentially all I want is to be able to use a standard oscillator as a modulator to control cutoff frequency, like you can do on the Pro-1 or EMS synth. I presume it is possible, but I realize that Audio is AC voltage and CV is DC voltage. So is it safe to mix these signals? Maybe someone brave can just try it and see if it works...

I don't have personal experience with Cells but it should easily do the job, and a lot more. Unless you specifically require that 'more' you may want to consider getting a sequencer (or even a mixer) and a quantizer, both of them cheap and simple. The combo would do the job of 'sequencing the sequence' plus be applicable to other diverse tasks. Just a thought.

offsets simply are “fixed” control voltages, we deal with them all time long within modular synthesis. For instance, you set the pitch knob of an oscillator to 12 'oclock, you don't move it anymore: you just set an offset; then you might want to control the pitch, of the notes the VCO will play, by means of a keyboard or capacitance plates (probably similar to the ones of this Cells module), so you will send a different offset to the VCO each time you play a different note of the keyboard.
I try to explain my need.
I will purchase Intellijel uScale II, it features a Shift Input which accept voltages in order to obtain 3 functions: (a) to navigate among the pre-stored scales, (b) to shift the interval note, (c) to shift the tonal note. Adopting fluctuating voltages (any cv source controllable by the means of a pot) I couldn't skip values and go immediately & exactly to the desired scale, interval, tonal note. Hence, pre-stored offsets are essentials to this kind of application.
It seems this module might make the grade: to store voltages (offsets) and to recall them by the means of capacitance plates, Sequencer might be engaged as well, though not necessarily. My only doubt concerns the HP width of this module, referring to my need, otherwise it is cool wide.

Not sure what you mean by 'offsets' here. Each pad stores a voltage value (actually two) which then can be played back in arpeggiator or sequence fashions. If you want to sequence the pitch of an osc or add an offset to a CV coming from (and going to) somewhere else is up to you. Did you watch the demo on its homepage?

I'm on the verge of diving in the wonderful world of modular. I know the basics of subtractive synthesis, but i never owned a modular system.......untill now(maybe).
A friend of mine is selling his 3U 114HP case with a Meanwell RT65B power supply and his Intellijel Atlantis module for a very good price.
I have a couple of questions:
- is this setup a good starting point?
- if yes, what are good modules to complement the atlantis and/or fill the rest of the case?
I don't need a sequencer for now. If i buy this setup, i would use my A4 CV to sequence and clock the system.

I've decided to open my first thread ever (i mean, ever.) because i would like to have some input, feedbacks from you guys.
About what? Of course about what i should buy for my modular, what i really miss there bla bla.
As you can see in the pic, i already own all of that module (i found a lot of really great deal on the marketplace, some module are not already here, but they will arrive).
So, what i miss guys? What i really need?
You don't see any effect module, because i will use my Earhquacker Device Pedals "Avalanche" for an incredibile and complex reverb and delay. I don't care about interaction with midi and computer (even if i have the doepfer A-190-3 just in case). I have also another sequencer (Pittsburgh Sequencer), a Korg SQ-1 and a Noise (Doepfer A-118) and a Mutant Bassdrum (Hexinverter).
So fell free to guide me, help me, suggest module or something that i really need (i've an extra doepfer case, the little one..)
I'm building and playing with my modular in many ways, but let's say that i'm really into (fucked up) all the ambient /drone (melodic) stuff. So, keep in mind that please.

This patch wound up being a lot of fun to explore though I'm still not to the "generative" point where I feel like I've composed meaningfully changing songs. Still a lot of flexibility in this routing.
Ansible/Kria driving in preset 1, pattern 5. Mangrove is the lead in constant formant mode with Braids providing bass and peaks is Drums. Braids is in WLIN mode and Mangrove has constant formant on. I played with having my 2nd Mangrove be another voice or either syncing or FM-ing the main mangrove but wound up discarding the additional complexity. Not worth its weight.
Just Friends and Sisters wind up being the main points of control for this patch as a little variation to the Curve, Intone or Time knobs produces a lot of difference in feel of the sequence.
thanks for your comment. i see your point but in my mind we are talking about two distinctively different things here: one is, as you mentioned, the "wishlist". the dream rack. the plans for years to come. modules i would never be able to afford. racks i couldn't fit into my living space. just tinkering about with new visions. trying the unimaginable. thinking out loud. and so on....
whereas my feature request above has a slightly different view on the subject: a rack which is nearly complete (in this case 98hp on 15u plus 2x 42hp on 12u) and has only some 8 modules missing which are most likely to be purchased in the nearer future and which are also most likely to be the ones desired.
in such a case it doesn't seem to make too much sense (in my world at least) to create multiple racks which then feature only the missing modules.
what i actually envisioned to achieve with this request is a better visibility of the modules which i still need to purchase amongst the existing ones. just to be able to better contemplate over which one is the next one.........and to keep things realistic in a way........
The "wishlist" function would be cool, though I guess you could just create another rack and put wish listed stuff in there.
Clouds really needs an attenuation module as a patch pal, so you can control the amount of modulation you send to the parameters and have more subtle modulations (compare, e.g., the Echophon, which has attenuverters on board for this job (the white knobs)). I'd also think about getting something like a Wogglebug which would give you a tactile random source with which to modulate your other parameters.
Mixer wise, you might look into the Intellijel Dub Mix with the Aux expanders.
Also, maybe have look at the Phonogene.

maybe this is really sad but i just woke up with this thought about a modulargrid feature which i would like share here: there a hell of a lot hypothetical racks being created here. i am also filling existing but empty rack space in my planner with desired but not yet purchased modules as well. so here goes my suggestion:
would it be possible to consider a button on every module, maybe just below the info and delete buttons, to select if the specific module in my rack does actually physically exist in my proper rack or not. one way of visually solving this could be that once the button is enabled or disabled the module in my grid turns more opaque or, respectively, is displayed in all its glory.
this just crossed my mind because the bigger rack i'm owning has many more modules which i physically own than not. but sometimes, when i would like to acquire a new addition with a little spare money i have to think which one is the one which will actually make it into the rack then. being able to visually distinguish between the ones i'm using and the ones i still need to purchase would make this process of thinking and deciding a little easier.
plus, all those dreamy fantasy racks would turn a little more realistic as well.
what do you think? is that request feasible?

Expert Sleepers makes great modules for getting stuff out of a DAW and into a modular. Check out the ES-8 (USB) and ES-3 (ADAT) in particular. In combination with their Silent Way plugin, you can even send CV directly to your modular from your DAW. No MIDI conversion required. You also might want to swap out one of those performance mixers for a Mutable Instruments Frames. Does something similar (signal routing) but in a unique way.

I'm new here (long time lurker)
I have a way of working in my DAW That i'm happy with but I want to move it into a live context.
Instead of investing in guitar pedals, a live mixer and Midi controller I'd rather start acquiring eurorack modules
which will be far more versatile, powerful and be a better investment (for when I inevitable take the plunge)
The way I work is based around 8 or so midi channels of Euclidean patterns fed to VST's samplers etc.
I essentially want the ability to send 4-6 channels of audio form my soundcard to a rack so I can process the signals there
(using effects in a tactile dub-like fashion) by taking these Midi channels and converting them into triggers and control voltages
I've started sketching out a rack above and I'm looking for suggestions really for work flow, the 'mideco' may not be the best way of converting the incoming midi to control voltages/triggers and I know there are alternative live mixers around (wmd- to pricey, blue lantern - seems like its been discontinued or very hard to come by - certainly in europe)
and any suggestions for effects modules would be great. Anything that mangels audio in an interesting way, or any versatile dsp effects modules.

Hi Everyone, I'm new here and Eurorack! I have done some fairly extensive research and I am quite keen on getting involved, however could use some advise on my proposed set-up. I am not new to synthesis per-say, however Eurorack stuff I am.
I have an idea of what I want to achieve sonically (Abstract/Glitch/IDM) and I have created an idea of a basic set up over on Modulargrid however I just wanted to get some feedback on it, hope that's cool?

Hi I am looking at swapping out the Analog Replicator on my rack, as I would rather have a wave folder but it would be nice to keep a bit bucket delay. Is there anything that will fit in this small area?
Can anyone give me feedback? I think the the Mother 32 will eventually be pulled out into it's original case but I am to dependent on it right now. The synth block has grown on me but is another option for the chopping block if needed.

Yes it works.....but not with all eurorack modules.
This is my setup at the moment........I have some extra modules that I switch sometimes.
The fxdf is great for parallel processing......I use it a lot with my guitar distortion pedals in combination with clouds.
Hey, thanks for the suggestion. You are right that the overlapping of the absolute positioned tags is not ideal.
For some reasons we always tried to stay with the fixed height boxes but maybe we should change that.
I am somewhat blind for those design issues because it was always like that and there are so many other things to fix ;-)
So it's good to be reminded to look over that again.

As a new user some of the design choices on this site are hard to deal with. Specifically when text is covered by boxes like 'tags' and the action buttons.
I have generated a short bit of CSS that fixes all these issues.
