It shouldn't matter if you use your Neutron in its own casing or in a Eurorack casing. Of course you need to check that the power cable has been connected correctly on both ends i.e. on the module/Neutron itself as well as at the bus board. If I remember well then the Neutron has a boxed pin header so there the problem shouldn't occur however if you have a non-boxed pin header bus board, then there you have to be careful.

Other than that, the Neutron should just work in your rack. Keep in mind that it takes 1 A or 1000 mA from your +12 V power supply so make sure that you have that power available. So perhaps to get started put the Neutron back in its own casing and try to use the outputs VCF1 and VCA, they should work properly. Once that works fine and you are still convinced that you want to rack your Neutron in a Eurorack case instead of in its own case, then transfer it to the Eurorack. If it then doesn't work any more then there is something rotten in the state of Denmark. So either you wrongly connected the power cable or you are beyond your maximum power consumption for the +12 V!

I have used it occasionally so far, not because I don't like the module but because I didn't had enough time to dive deep into it. Compression is still something new to me, so I still have to gain more experience to be able to provide you here with a deep knowledge answer.

On a much higher level and my first impression working with this module was excellent though. The sturdiness and the quality of a Waldorf module is just lovely. The few times I used it so far, I am happy with it, seems to work pretty well. For me it was good enough to get a second unit :-)

Just very recent I came across a Bastl Instruments - Dynamo module, that looks like a compressor module to me too. I don't know it and I don't have it, I just saw it a few days ago, perhaps worth to have a look at?

Here a copy of the Bastl-instruments.com website about this module:

Dynamo is a combination of 3 utility modules: envelope follower, comparator, and voltage-controlled switch. It combines Envelope Follower and comparator to extract the gate from the envelope. On top of that, there is full-wave rectifier output |EF IN| and Compressor CV curve generator.

When the Compressor CV is plugged into the CV input of a VCA with offset and attenuator knobs, you get a Compressor! The threshold knob on Dynamo sets the compressor threshold, Offset on the VCA sets the gain, and the attenuator on the CV input sets the ratio of compression (which can also go negative). This allows you to create a compressor type of effect from anything: VCA, tube module, VCF, or anything that comes to your rack!

If you consider the "building block" concept idea then please have a look at a picture I made a while ago and I shared before:

How big each "building block" would/could be, I leave that up to you, for example each at 84 HP. In such example if you would have a monster case then one row of 168 HP could consist of two building blocks. Naturally a few blocks can be merged together to save space too.

Well... there are patch cables and there are patch cables ;-) But too avoid a (very) long discussion... I will just share some experience I made with patch cables here.

I have just recently made some very bad experience with Endorphin.es patch cables, far too thin, not nice to use and the slipped out of my patch cable holders from Voltcraft ML-1 SW 14 "Messleitungshalter" (German for lab cable holder, freely translated). Not only the cable were very thin but also the plugs. I don't understand why Endorphin.es (who has in my opinion to keep up a good name in the market) wants to offer such a poor type of patch cables...

Anyway, I also less recently but after I posted here above my recommendation about Cordial CPI series, made some very good experience with Vermona patch cables. I think they are even a notch or two better than Cordial CPI series and roughly about in the same price category. The prices of these top-notch cables is quite an issue hence why I buy small patch cables from Make Noise. For that kind of money great patch cables (not top-notch though) and wouldn't cost you an arm or a leg and for the longer patch cables I still make them myself.

Regarding stackables, I actually never owned them myself, however seen and used them at my local dealer and from the above comments here I straight away knew that's not the road to go. External splitter might be an idea however why not just get a bunch of buffered multiples and all problems are solved? ;-) At my signature you will find my website where you can download for free PDF formatted review reports. All the multiples I have, I have reviewed them and published a review report of those. I am in the middle of all testing them in the same way so a more fair way of comparing them to each other will be established. By March/April I hope to have updated all the multiple review reports (those with Appendix A v1.26 or later are the updated ones and the ACL one is one of the new style measured multiples too). In Appendix A (separately downloadable at the "Other documents" tab) you can find in subparagraph 2.5.2.4 The multiple functionality in details how I have tested it.

I haven't heard from Elevator Sound before, so I directly checked it out but em... elevatorsound.eu doesn't seem to exist. I found elevatorsound.com a synthesizer shop that's also called Elevator Sound so I guess it's the same one ;-) They are located in Bristol, UK though, which is a bit of a pity because of Brexit and import duties.

Wow, that's great that they have the 281t currently on stock! (Just seen on their website) However without the Euro currency, losing money on the currency exchange and the rather high prices in Sweden, I will consider this as a plan B, if let's say by the end of this year the modules are still not available in Germany ;-)

The 258t is in Germany to be expected/estimated to be available around mid March 2022, accordingly to the website of my nearby dealer and the 281t supposed to be mid March 2022 as well but that has been moved up to mid June 2022 :-( So looks like you are much better off in Canada ;-)

+1 for Ronin regarding his remark to get yourself a Behringer (short B.) Neutron. I started with that one as well and I do think it really helped me to check if I liked modular, yes or no... for me the clear answer was yes :-)

I agree with Ronin too about the Doepfer - A-111-x, that's something for later. I would start with a simpler oscillator (like the Doepfer - A-110) just to get used to modular in common, once you are more experienced with it you can look and check for complex oscillators, saves you in the beginning a bit of money as well and don't think a simple oscillator wouldn't be used any more once you become experienced. Simple or any oscillator at all are always good additions to whatever setup you like to get working with.

+1 for Lugia on the B. 2600 too. If the B. 2600 would be available at that time I bought the Neutron and if I realised how great (indeed) learning machine that 2600 is, then I would have bought the 2600 instead of the Neutron. I got the Blue Marvin version now since a while and wow, what a machine. That one is from a synthesizer principles-principle just blowing away your mind with, in my opinion, a fantastic cool (to avoid the word "vintage" ;-) let's call it) "old fashion" synthesizer sound (I mean this in a positive way), like the young times of J.M. Jarre, Vangelis, K. Schulze, Tangerine Dream, and the lot.

I don't know where you live but if you live in Europe, check the main synthesizer shop online websites, the B. 2600 default version is now on offer for just as little as 498 bucks! The opportunity to get fantastically started for a seriously reasonable amount of money. If you like that one, it confirms that you are ready for Eurorack and then save a bit longer, get a 3 x 84 HP or 3 x 168 HP rack and there you go. My main advice is to take it easy and slowly but start with a larger rack immediately (that's more cost effective). Take your sweet time and don't buy all modules you have planned or in mind in one go but buy them in little batches, gain experience, if and where needed adjust your opinion on certain modules and then buy a few more. Not everything in one go!

Since you mentioned that you have already experience with semi-modular synths then perhaps you are sure already about the fact that you love modular, well then just go for it :-)

Ha, ha, I will be honest here with you, that for a little moment I forgot that the user interface is mainly done via the iPad. Still some main controls on that Eurorack module wouldn't harm and indeed, as you suggest yourself already two or three (or more) buttons for play, pause, stop, reverse, forward, (record?), reverse, back to beginning point, select channel/track, delete, copy, paste, edit, redo, etcetera, functions might be a good addition. I just mention a ton of functions, it doesn't mean all need to be implemented, just to give you some ideas, that's all.

What I actually meant to say/ask and indeed I was unclear about that, is that I miss some CV inputs. That certain sequencer functionality can be controlled by CVs. I don't know the exact functionality of your sequencer (yet), so it's difficult to say exactly what but that at least some main functions of your sequencer (those that would make sense at least) can be CV controlled as well, so either by iPad and/or by CV. For example that "drawing" of the sequencer, would be perhaps interesting if one can control that under certain circumstances by a CV input as well. Just as an example. You are the one who knows your sequencer the best, so I leave it up to you how and which CV inputs would make sense, if at all.

There is really no reason not to buy this module, the reason why it's limited to 1 A (1000 mA) is just because of the above mentioned reasons. Since this module is limited, there is no reason at all to be scared to use it. So you can just go ahead and get that module, if that's what you like.

The above mentioned examples are only applicable if there wouldn't be a limitation (of for example) 1 A.

Yes your 1. request is great, I would like to see indeed planned modules in my rack but dimmed or greyed-out or whatever is easy to implement. It would be good to have that as key combination or something like that while building the rack. For my own use, I don't need your reference to my Collection, but if that's easy to implement as well, why not? :-)

Rack statistics, is of course a lot of fun if easy possible, however if things needs to be prioritised, I think to have the option of planned modules in your rack that are somehow dimmed/greyed-out would be seriously fantastic.

Since you want to make a kind of Erica Synths rack out of this, if this would be my rack, I would have add the Octasource for some nice and crazy modulation, which module has to leave for that... is indeed a bit difficult. Is there not an option to add one row? This is a slightly bit small case. I remember you got already this 2-row-complete-Doepfer-system, so why not add a 3-row rack to it and use that 3-row rack for this idea? :-)
