Modular + Brainwash -realtime visuals

Thanks for your really full response Joem, I feel like I set you a homework essay or something ..,but your advice is really appreciated. I am new to modular, the nearest I come at the moment is a microbrute with the breakout patches, a friend is lending me a 1990s analogue solutions mini modular so you are right that time spent playing with the system 10 will give me a better idea of what I want to compliment it with....there's nowhere I can get hands on with the system 10 before I buy and all the demo s I've seen have focused on its gnarly sounds you've had yours for a bit does it do justice to the softer end of the sonic spectrum too ?

Cheers
lip

Liphippy, if you're new to modulars and kind of on a budget like me, I recommend doing like I did and getting your base and then playing with it until you have a better idea where you want it to go next. I thought I was going to mostly ignore the MIDI3 on this, but it makes for a great tap-able clock source (even without any midi plugged in), and the arpeggiator is a pleasant surprise... I didn't know it had that before I got it. In fact most of what I've been doing with it so far relies on both the arpeggiator and the clock output.

I've had the System 10.1 for about a week and wanted to get a feel for it before I looked into other things, since it's my first modular. Now that I've been playing with it, I've got a long (very expensive) list of things I'd love to add, but this plan here is just my next steps, and things I can afford now or soon. (I'd LOVE to get an Intellijel Metropolis sooooo much, but I can't do any $500+ modules right now.) On its own, the System 10 is a real nice monosynth and you can do some neat stuff with it, but I want more than a monosynth. I want more things to play with... more sound sources... more triggers... more CV sources... more performance inputs...

My first goals are to get more VCOs and LFOs and VCAs. Also, I want some reverb.

  • The Qu Bit will have the reverb covered (until I can afford a bigger awesomer one).

  • The Lightstrip seems like an awesome, small, and inexpensive little quick CV/gate source, and with the looping function it can be an LFO in some cases. And as much as I love my little midi keyboard, it'd be nice not to need it all the time for my modular.

  • But the VERY FIRST addition I'm going to make is the Peaks. That's got LFO covered (2 of them!), but it can also be so many other things... It's got ADSR (2 of them!), it's got drums (bassdrum + snare drum!), and it's got a mini-sequencer! This is the most feature packed thing I've seen for this price.

This plan is still a work-in-progress. I'm also considering a MakeNoise Function in place of the Peaks, and I'd like a noise source and S&H, though that's not quite as important (at this stage) if I get the Peaks. I still have no idea what to do for more VCOs or VCAs yet. Plus I think most of what I buy is going to come from local shops (NYC, so there's a few) since I'm horribly impatient when it comes to this and don't want to wait for mail to arrive, so it depends on what they have in stock and recommend.

Hi Joem I also started a sys 10.1 + plan today - I aim to get the PGH in May so beginning to think about what else to put in the case - so why the modules you.ve chosen so far ? Just watched the tut for the qu bit, that is seriously cool despite the slightly wobbly looking knobs so now I gotta rethink , damn

I'm a professional beer cap/cork-sniffer myself.

This is the best use of that tiny hole in my rack. Seriously, no one needs another mult right? Or a blank spacer, who are we kidding? ;)

The only thing that would make this better is to stuff more vactrols into it. I wonder if you could squeeze three in there? I'm sure you could fit two.

But it's great as-is too.

Started with a PGH Modular System 10.1+ ($709), which this site added up to $736.

Thread: Rubicon

Nice one, thanks

Thread: Rubicon

Yep, same power header, same mounting holes. You'll be fine!

Thread: Rubicon

So i'm new to all this so might sound like a stupid question to the majority of you, but here goes..
Does the Intellijel Rubicon fit in a Doepfer case just like the doepfer modules? With the red stripe on the ribbon band at the bottom?? I've only got Doepfer and tiptop modules in there so far and don't want to fry anything in the rack..

Cheers Jase

ohh darn case ergonomics. i'm very "bauhaus" when it comes to flow. but damned if it isn't sometimes difficult to arrange things.

I will post some sound snippets from that modular in this thread:

You'll find some informations about that demo at the soundcloud clip information.

Bump Marketplace Offers

If you edit an offer it will be bumped (bring up my post) to the top of the list.

Approved Manufacturer Specs

Manufacturer can approve the specs of their modules and lock them from further editing by users.
This should increase safety of power specs and prevent upload wars for the nicest panel graphic.
Approved specs are tagged with a nice seal icon which took me hours to make so you better like it.

Fair enough, but then we are discussing this on a site that allows you to decide on the best configuration of your minibar/liquor cabinet/wine cellar :-)

@mt3 I see. So this might come ...

I have missed this:
I would like having the ability to insert empty rows to anywhere in a system plan. An example: 4 rows are filled - I need to add an extra row between row 2 and 3 for more modulators and filters.
It's a pain (gigantic 1st world problem) to add an extra row at the bottom and then move all the modules of the lower half to make space in the middle...
-- KNYST

KNYST, as unicorn user you have the "swap row" function in your "edit" menu.
That should do the trick.
-- bj_gzp

Ah, yes, thanks! I just learned about that function, but forgot about it

Add more currencies for display (I don't mean another currency to enter in the edit option).
Users select a currency and price is converted.

Ability to filter and display modules within a price range.
Example
Display all LFOs between $150 and $225

Ability to add and display prices for modules that are both pre-built and assembled.
Example
Synthrotek Echo
$75/$125

I actually think @ym2612's idea is pretty good and different from that implemented in the past.

The use case I believe he describes is more of a bookmarking/RSS one. I'd like the option to fave/follow a user and specific racks. Not for "socializing", but to be updated by what I consider to be interesting or inspiring racks.

Don't know whether to thank you or hate you.

Like declaring "Hey everybody! Free beer outside!" at an AA meeting.

In the mobile version (iOS, iPhone 5c) the price and text description are sometimes obscured by the tags. This can differ depending on landscape or portrait view.

Ability to sort modules by function, not just Newest/Alphabetic/.../Price.

Hey folks, I've just added 165 videos to the Eurorack Video Tutorial list I maintain so thought it's a good opportunity to mention the list here. There are over 1600 videos in the list now.

You can find it here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1vqg-Y9xw0FItlVyLlqK6l9rVltaYAb_UFR8W--WIreI

I try to update it semi-regularly, if you want to know when something new is posted you can follow me on twitter:
https://twitter.com/eurorackvideos

The plan is to do another major update this week.
Video/module makers - please let me know if your videos / modules are not in the list and I will be happy to add!

Ello,

I'm working on designing my first 2U Eurorack kit, and coming from a Nord Modular background I've long had a fascination with control signal modulation. In particular, I've always enjoyed mixing various LFOs, and resetting them periodically to render the complex waveshapes into more manageable (rhythmically predictable) structures.

Anyhoo, I've only found two LFOs with this functionality:

1) VERMONA - fourMulator

and

2) 4ms' Quad LFO.

Sadly, the Vermona is overkill for me now, and about twice as much as I'd like to spend. The 4ms is more reasonable, but lacks dedicated potentiometers for LFO speed (the speed is set by tapping a button).

I'll about to roll up my sleeve and slog through for more, but any recommendations for quality LFOs with reset options would be welcome. I'd be happiest with a single or dual LFO.

Just remember that 4ms row power eats up 4hp per row. You might stretch a black one to run two rows.

Ah nevermind, as much as it would be cool to have there is nothing I would take out!

After lotsa emails with manufacturers the 4MS PSU seems to be a much less head scratching way to go.

I'm having the classic pre-order panic doubt: say I was to swap the Pressure Points with a Rene' which modules would become redundant (if any) to allow me to fit it in the case?

ModularGrid Rack

Thanks for baring with me until the end! :)

Oh ok. Well then you'll need a wiring harness with a switch and power jack. Not sure if east sick would still include this, as the different power bricks have a few different plug sizes. Here's where communication between you, Intellijel and perhaps London mod/eastwick will need to happen. :)

Thanks both of you guys!

London Modular no longer ships cases with MN PSU units, they ship it with what you desire.
I guess I'll ask Intellijel!

Exper I need your help once again!
As I'm about to order everything I want to make sure that, at least in your opinion, a TPS80W Triple Power Supply – TYPE B will work with an Eastwick Aero Black case. I asked London Modular but they won't make a statement about it since you need to screw the PSU on the case and they don't do it.
Also, will I need anything else like internal cables or power adapters of any sort that don't come with the PSU or the modules?

Cheers!
-- Tazio

Yes you will need the meanwell external brick. As for specifics with fitting the case, I really couldn't say. It might be best to ask east wick themselves as well as Intellijel. As far as I can tell, that case already comes with a makenoise power supply. Perhaps if you order direct from east sick, you can get an empty case, and he can make a wiring harness compatible with the Intellijel busboard.

not sure how SKIFF friendly the TPS80W Triple Power Supply – TYPE B is ..???
the Eastwick Aero Black case. looks pretty thin

Ordered Circadian Rhythms ! Cant wait to get that clock moving! Some major module switching going on....

The 'new' version doesn't need 5V but the old sure does, eh?

I have two feature requests:

1) What i am really missing is a possibility to flag modules I own.
That parameter added to the search options would considerably ease the burden of searching.
As bonus, in the case the above is implemented, a button kind of "Generate rack with all my modules" would be nice to have.

2) Right now a rack is either public or private. All or nothing. If i want to discuss a private rack with a buddy, i need to download the image and send it to him. What would be handy would be the possibility to give "view rights" on a rack to specific members of MG.

Swap Rows

Unicorn members can now easily swap entire rows in the planner.

Yes, this is a really useful feature! Thanks a lot.

Just put a synthrotek ring mod kit behind the panel. Easy. Be aware that you should strengthen the panel with perfboarded jacks. Also the mounting holes are off center for regular non sliding bolts - doepfer cases basically.

Hi Richard, it's nice to put a face to all those tasty patches I've collected with my soft synths! Thanks and Kudos! Dig the performances!

When in doubt, add a patch cable.

@peff, any chance you'd build this one for other folks? Message me if so!

Looks awesome! Really dig the rack as well!

When in doubt, add a patch cable.

gonna install da bees tonight and wish there was a bees-faceplate if its as good as it sounds.

It doesn't require a different faceplate. All the physical inputs, outputs and controls are the same as the official Braids firmware.

-- Bennelong.Bicyclist

yeah sure, but da bees looks and sounds better

I just bought a Seq8 kit from @bj_gzp and everything went great. quick delivery. friendly communication.

I sold a Seq8 kit to @Dominikeddie. He asked to hold, and transferred within the agreed time. :)
I would hold another module for him.
