Hello everyone. Newbie alert... at least with the Erorack stuff. For a little context, I have been creating Rhythmic Dark Ambient material for some years with Reason Studios software on a PC/laptop as a hobbiest. I've been wanting to put together a Eurorack system just to have a little tactile performance fun at home, to integrate with other hardware I have, or to just drone-out by itself on the living room floor. Right now I have an MPC One for rhythmical/percussive elements, a Korg Wavestate, a 1010 Blackbox for sample playback and a 1010 Bluebox for mixing it all down. I would love to put together a Erorack case, dedicated to Dark Drone soundscapes to round everything out, preferably around the size of 6u/104HP. After a couple of month’s research, this is what my tentative plan is as far as intial modules go, based on my current budget. Sound generators: Maneco Labs Groan Drone 2 and the Maneco Labs Groan Wave. I loved the demos and the sound produced. Zlob Diod Chaos(x2) for modulating the Groans. Feedback Modules Mix KM for mixing the 2 Groans and any other future sound generators (possibly an E352 Cloud Terrarium) together. Maneco Labs Otterley Dual Reverb and an Erica Synths Black Stereo Delay2 as send/return effects on the Mix KM. Cosmotronic Messor Stereo Compressor to glue the mix together after the Mix KM and the Befaco Output v3 if I need balanced outs for any reason. All packed in a TipTop Audio Mantis 6u 104HP case. Does this sound like a feasible plan, or am I off base as far as the Erorack system goes? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

All I can really say is that you only have too much of something if you don't use it and you don't have enough of something if you find yourself constantly reaching for something that isn't there. Other than that, it looks like a fun system if you enjoy the sounds and workflow. About 9u / 104hp is where I started really enjoying my system.

Hi! I am looking to upgrade from 6U to 9U and wanted some advice. Particularly, I wanted to see if I have too much of some things in lieu of something else.

A few points:
- I own the modules in the top two rows (except for ochd and Tangle Quartet; conversely, I own SHTH and Clock O' Pawn on bottom row)
- Z8000 would replace Korg SQ-1 external sequencer
- Not using MIDI, avoiding menu-diving modules as much as possible (simple toggling/scrolling is OK)
- Predominately a rhythm/percussion system
- Please excuse the module order!

Three more feature ideas that are probably easier than AI:

• A filter on "My Modules" to show only modules not in the current rack would be very helpful when contemplating swaps.
• A way to "diff" two racks so that I can see what modules are not in common between the two would help for what seems like a common use case around here: versions of the same rack. Bonus points for movement notation or visualization (e.g. this moved here and that moved there and this was added and that was removed).
• A way to say that I own more than one of each module, and a counter in the “My Module” list that would show me how many I have used (e.g. 2/3). If this worked with the “not in this rack filter” in a smart way, so that if I had used 2 of 3 I own it would show 1 not used in the rack, all the better!

A multi-purpose module, shaper, VCO, envelope, slewer, and maybe a few more.

Build is straightforward once you figure out the the build guide pictures are for an earlier revision of the board, NOT the 2.0 in the kit. Might be frustrating to a starting builder, folks, update your build guides when you update your kits.

Works OK. Not as aggressive a shaper as some I’ve done, and the VCO is interesting. Does produce nice envelopes. Could be perfect for you.

I think it would be cool to use AI image recognition to build a rack from a photo of a real world setup. Sometimes someone has a cool rack in a photo and I wonder what the modules are: how great would it be to leverage all the module photos on MG (let alone faceplate variants) to recognize and reconstruct their rig?

I don't know what the sparkles next to some manufacturers' names (like Xaoc Devices) mean, but in the module list they flicker incessantly on my iOS devices... is that intentional or broken? It is very distracting.

a matrix mixer is always useful, especially for extending modulation - copies of 4 modulation sources in gets 4 related, but more complex modulation signals out... doepfer for ergonomics and economics! although once you have one, you'll probably want a second one... they are so useful

Hey, I've been working on my setup for a while, and would love some advice.

This is my setup, it works alongside an Elektron Digitakt and my interface/Ableton. Sequencing, some triggers/gates and clocks come from Digitakt via CVOCD. Goal of the rack is to be able for sound design (both from scratch and processing external audio), genres are house, techno, dubstep, drumnbass, so all beat based, heavy bass and non-generative. everything gets mostly arranged in digitakt/ableton, so only need 1 voice at a time. which also makes me think that since its really just 1 voice i have enough modulation, envelopes, etc already, but maybe more mixers?

would love some advice on the rack. not sold on all of this, but ive been building in piefew and am very happy with what ive got so far. the bottom 2 rows are mostly audio and the top row is mostly the modulation.

im pretty much set with the audio stuff in there (brenso, angle grinder, 100grit, miamsa, altar, rabbit hole, belgrad) and some modulation (falistri, pams, zadar) but open to any suggestions! some other things i have my eye on: xaoc's Leibniz system, compressor/expander, envelope follower at least, and other than that not really sure. would love to hear suggestions on any additional audio processing that could be good, or if things look reptitive!

It's not on the buyer in any case because if we enter in an agrement for goods in exchange for payment and the payment was made regardless of the method, then the seller needs to deliver the goods. There is no grey area, the payment was made, the seller has the money. Buyer has no goods, seller needs to ensure the goods are delivered or refund issued. If the seller wants to play the "you didn't get insurance" game, then the buyer should say "you chose a subpar courier service". I have zero tolerance for this kind of fuckery, and I buy insurance anyway whether the buyer pays for it or not because I accept the responsibility to get the goods to the buyer and know the mail service providers don't give 2 shits about customer packages.

1 rule: Don't fuck with other people's money.

This seems to have gotten lost cause people don't get their asses beat anymore for pulling bullshit like this.

Edit: Also, seller tried to place the onus of buying insurance on the buyer, when in fact the seller is the one who trusted the courier to ship without insurance.

Because it's exactly the purpose of law, solve ambiguous situations like this one. I know it's a lot of money, it is frustrating, and one can feel scammed, but wait for the answer of the french postal service. They might just have missed a scan. Also, check with your local postal service, they might have missed a scan too, who knows. It happenned to me with USPS, and also LaPoste. One very important distinction between those 2 you mention and MG using uninsured shipping + PayPal F&F is precisely the responsibility of the seller being engaged by the terms & conditions everyone agrees to prior to the deal, as opposed to here. As far as I know, both these platforms retain a portion of the sale money in order to protect the buyer until receipt, which could have been done here as well using PayPal Buyer's Protection.
Basically, a selling platform isn't the same as a classified ads section, in the latter the user is responsible for most of its security. If that same deal had happened on Modwiggler instead, I'd wager it would have gone the same way, for the same reasons.

Also, to be clear, linking a user name to a bad reputation in the thread created for this is totally fair game when the dust settled and one person feels they got a bad deal, but I wanted to say that posting personal info (e.g., names and addresses) is a bad idea and could land you in legal troubles.

When the postal/shipping service receives the item, the seller is absolved of responsibility for the package. It would be kind, and expected, of the shipper to help with filing lost package claims and things like that, but the seller completed his or her end of the transaction. Your concern should be with the shipping company, and demanding an adequate response from them. That's how I look at it, anyway.

Actually, the shipping company's customer is the seller, not the buyer. As a buyer, trying to file a complaint for lost package will be either ignored or rejected on the grounds that you did not pay for it but the seller did - at least that's been my experience.

However, I agree that if as a buyer, you chose to pay with F&F (not really a "favor to the seller" because most sellers will cascade the fees on the selling price) and did not ask for shipping insurance (arguably this is also a bit on the seller I feel, at least I personally always try to inform people buying from me of such a risk before concluding any deal), you're essentially hoping for the happy flow and accepting most of the risk if not all.

That's just crazy paranoia IMO. Most people will try to be honest while buying/selling music gear, as long as everything is going fine. But ask yourself in all honesty, would you REALLY propose, in such a case, to send 200€ to a buyer after the module you're trying to sell gets lost in the mail ? Let's not forget that the buyer is not really at fault here and the 49 positive feedbacks probably didn't come from nowhere, that's telling me he/she is acting in good faith the majority of times... Could he/she be super nice about it and split the loss? Maybe, but not sure I personally would be very motivated for that niceness after reading things like "narcissist apes" and "shitty people"...

As a seller here on modulargrid who has an etic and consider himself correct what would you do if the package is lost by delivery company and you have been paid with friendly payment?

as i said the friendly payment on paypal is also a favour to the seller to get his money immediatly so a minimum of responsability is on him i would say...

the case is this:
i bought a module (chorus effect dimensions) on modulargrid from an user with 49 positive feedbacks. (330€ free shipping)
we actualky agreed to trade that module previously during another trade (he had that module on sale +others that ended up been already sold, a bit sketchy) but after a while he refused and decided to keep it and that trade ended up ok with another module (which implied him sending back some money + another module). i received his module quite fast with the same postal service.

now he decided to sell that module he didnt want to , chorus dimensions.
agreed on free shipping and paid friendly with paypal 330€
gave me tracking.
24 th of october he shipped.
since that day the tracking number has no updates, like as it has never left the post office....
he now (few days ago)opened a complain to search for the package.

that's the story....
could he fake the shipping of a package giving a tracking number of a lost package?
im starting feeling paranoid since the previous trade was a bit hars in communications and i feel he in the end was not happy with the choice of module he got from me (he is selling it already).
im thinkin he is trying to get "revenge" on his bad choice...

nobody here proposed at least a 50% refund as a solution.

Fortunately rules exist to regulate transactions, including and especially on the Internet!
Whether for the Business to Consumer, or Consumer to Consumer. But again, ‘the law is a complex matter’.

For example, a particular seller can be (under French law in any case) legally qualified as a ‘merchant’ according to the regularity of his sales activity. Thus, regular acts of sale on a merchant site or even a simple connection site, can make an individual a merchant of fact (within the meaning of the Code of Commerce). Various others criteria can support this... And this is pretty good for protecting transactions.

Not knowing the context of this transaction in particular, the site where it took place, or even its amount and the profit made, and not being a specialized jurist, I will stop here my advice. After all, we are here only trying to bring some leads @lazarusgordon

PS: I have been ordering various gears for years in France, Germany, Spain, etc. No problem to report with La Poste on my side.

As you used F&F then of course PP won't be any help and I fear you'll have to write it off as the law is your only recourse if the package is lost and the seller won't refund you. Realistically, however, you'd have to bring a case and the costs would be high and success is not guaranteed. So it's probably gone.
Another good reason never to use F&F I'm afraid. Sorry, and good luck it shows up eventually.

Hi! I was wondering if there is any plans to allow a change in the orientation of the modules within the rack? Like for example a standard 3u 4hp module to be placed horizontally in a 1u case (on a real scenario with an adapter). I think it would be super handy.

3x MIA is useful in many situations. Concerning Twin Waves, it is perhaps not the best example because it has 2 attenuators (param 1 and param 2 knobs). That said, 3x MIA will be able to mix and dose two sources of external modulations that will result in a single flow in one of the two inputs (param 1 or param 2 inputs).

I don’t sell modules :) When I write 'We often suggest...' I am referring to this ModularGrid community (and others) that quite often recommends the 3x MIA module. It has many useful functions in a small 6HP format. https://www.modulargrid.net/e/happy-nerding-3x-mia
In fact, it is one of the highest rated modules currently (see the list of ‘Top Modules’ https://www.modulargrid.net/e/modules/evaluationlists)

It is not always relevant to advise this or that module (apart from a few utilities) because the beginner logically has a difficulty in explaining what he is looking for, and the one who advises will naturally refer to his own tastes and orientations.

Take your time. Watch videos. Download and read the manuals for more information, and understand for yourself. I did this for several months before purchasing my first modules.

And start with few modules (but a large box)...

May I ask why you want to move the sequencer inside your rack? Is it purely the form factor?

Yes, I feel i'll prefer it in amongst the dedicated drum modules.. playability..erganomics..

On paper, the Beatstep Pro has somewhat the same functionality as the Erica Synths Drum sequencer (I believe difference being that Drum Sequencer has a few more tracks and accents while Beatstep Pro has two cv/velo/gate sequencer which you could also use for accents of course), while costing 1/4th of the price of the Erica Synths one. Also the workflow seems quite similar.

Beatstep is great, don't get me wrong, and great value... Plus you get 2 x sequencers built into it.
But, I have found that while I once thought 8 x outs would be more than enough, I've now used them all & want more; the others have 16.
I also feel the 4x4 grid vs the row of 16 pads will allow me to be quicker & better at programming on the fly..

Besides a drum sequencer where you'd program your own sequences, I find the Mutable Instruments Grids (or any of its clones) usefull to have as interesting accents or some extra background voices. Also it's really easy to dial in snare fills and funky hihat patterns. Grids is also not too expensive so maybe it's nice to have besides a dedicated drum sequencer.

in O&C I use the env follow module which opens and closes Veils in duck mode

I got the Robaux for monetary reasons and I'd say, hands down: Go for the Erica if HP and money is not the issure.
The Robaux rubberized buttons are just not very ... agile? you kinda have to press them hard - they're not trigger pads as e.g. on the ableton push. It works, but if you really want to jam live easily i'd def go for the Erica.

Currently have Beatstep Pro which is great but want to bring seq into the case which will be a dedicated drum rig.

Primary requirement are
To be able to play in a live sense as much as possible.
16 outputs
Prefer the 4x4 button layout (as assume easier to change on the fly compared to beatstep)

Apologies if already requested, but didn't see it... would love an option to sort by power specs for eurorack among the other sort features (newest, popular, alphabetic, etc.). I often find myself jumping back and forth to the 'details' page of modules just to see the power specs... trying to check if I could fit a module, power-wise. A simple sort would handle it nicely, though I know the three separate power values might complicate things. For my needs, +12v alone would be sufficient; or maybe just sum the three specs as a single integer value?

• Leaving a gap between the modules can be risky. A 1HP blank panel from Doepfer costs around 3€. Much cheaper than damage caused by a short circuit due to an involuntary intrusion.

• The 2hp drum modules are of good quality. Richard Devine’s Current Live Setup features a 2hp Kick and a 2hp Hat:

• An attenuverter will allow you to adjust (reduce or increase) the amount of modulation you wish on the tone or the decay of your 2hp Kick, for example. This is an essential tool. The most complete modules have an attenuver for each of their main cv inputs.
